In 1848 Waldon Hanchett patented a dental chair by attaching a neck extention to a four-legged chair. Improvements through out the 19th and 20th centuries meant that patients were more comfortable and a unique style of furniture used solely for medical settings emerged. This chair originates from Canterbury and is one of the first to be made there.
